Salegg Castle once belonged to Oswald's lands. Only sparse remains of the wall remain from the former castle. According to legend, there is an underground secret passage from Salegg to the nearby Hauenstein Castle, in which there are treasures made of gold and silver.

Castelrotto (lat: castellum ruptum) means destroyed castel. The castel must have been lying down for a long time before its name could be transferred to the settlement that developed here.
In the meantime we have built a new Castel with beautiful rooms for our guests.

Details

The castle of the Wolkensteiners can be seen from afar: the Trostburg. As the exhibition on Oswald's life there shows, the minstrel spent a lot of time in the castle and was probably born there too. At that time the Trostburg was one of the most important fortresses, it is still considered one of the most beautiful and best preserved castles in South Tyrol.
