Hiking tours

Compaccio – Saltner Hut – Sciliar

Difficulty level: medium, Height difference: 613 m, Duration: 3.00 h

We take the road marked 10 towards Punta d’Oro. We'll leave this soon, turning right. One more short stretch and we enter the Sciliar Catincaccio Nature Park. Our hike now runs through the typical landscape of the Alpe di Siusi. Extensive meadows and pastures surrounded by forests, swampy meadows, natural reservoirs for mountain water, and everything is surrounded by the magnificent Dolomite landscape of the Sella group and the Sciliar massif. The path 10 leads us directly into the road marking 5, which, turning left, leads us slightly downhill to the Saltner Hut 1731 m snack station. As a result, we cross over an architecturally very interesting bridge, the stream Frötschenbach, and now enter what at first glance appears to be an almost impassable, almost unfriendly landscape: We are in the area of chamois and deer; the golden eagle is also at home here. The path leads in many serpentines through extensive pine fields in order to unite with the so-called tourist trail, marked 1. It leads us through an area of great natural interest. Soon we reach the height of the Sciliar high plateau, and the now pleasant, almost flat path brings us in a short time directly to the Bolzano Hut/Schlernhaus 2457 m.

Difficulty level: easy, Height difference: 1006 m, Duration: 6.00 h

From Saltria (1675 m; here by bus) on the wide feeder road following marker 3, initially through the ox forest, a pasture where the cattle drive regulation dates back to the time of Maria Theresa. The Sasso Piatto rises majestically above it. After the ox forest you cross extensive mountain meadows and a wooded valley, then the "Santner-path" branches off to the right with the marking 525. With a view of the mighty Sassolungo, it leads us over the Plan de Cunfin, a magical piece of earth that brings the fairy tales of the Dolomites to life. Then it goes on a wide path over scree up to the Punta Dantersas with the Vicenza Hut/Langkofelhütte (2252 m; summer management) and on a steep scree path further up to the Forcella Sassolungo/Langkofelscharte with the Toni-Demetz Hut (2681 m; mountain station of the gondola lift leading up from the house of Passo Sella); from Saltria 3 1/2 hours. You walk in the footsteps of such important climbers as Johann Santner, Luis Trenker and Johann Demetz, who built the hut and named it after his son Toni, who was killed by lightning on the Sassolungo. After the "Sassolungo experience", take the ascent path again.

Around the “Kofel” of Castelrotto

An absolute must for everyone who loves Castelrotto.

This short hike is an absolute must for everyone who loves Castelrotto. The view that you enjoy is an experience that you will feed on long after your vacation. The path climbs through the right archway of the Krausegg community center, past the Hotel Turm. (Don't be impressed by the initial climb). After about 200 m the path is almost flat throughout. After the left bend, we turn right, following the wide steps up the Kalvarienberg sign. The view is unobstructed of the Santner, the Sciliar, the Bullaccia and the wonderful meadow landscape above the village, the group of houses of Tiosels and the hamlet of St. Michael. The path leads around the Kofel in a descriptive circle. The chapels give it the appearance of a calvary. Turning left we see the hamlet of Tesimo in the valley below and the Renon high plateau with its villages and its highest point, the Corno del Renon. Following the cloister with its chapels, we reach the so-called Infang, a truly idyllic place. Old masonry and the massive castle tower, in which a double chapel is built, is reminiscent of proud times gone by. At the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century, the medieval castle was built here from the ruins of the former hill fort and the remains of the Roman fort (seat of the Lords of Castelrotto). In 1675 Georg Kraus had the castle, which had been left in ruins, torn down and the chapels of the Calvary complex were built from this rubble. In 1835 the Kofel passed to the municipality of Castelrotto. Processions and supplications take place here on various occasions.

Castelrotto - Siusi - Lake of Fiè – Fiè

A pleasant walk from Castelrotto to Fiè.

We follow hiking trails 6 and 7 all the way to Siusi. In Siusi we hike through the village to the valley station of the Alpe di Siusi cable car. We leave the valley station on the left and take the road marking 2 in a south-westerly direction to the Hotel Salegg. Several trails branch off here, we stay on trail 2 which leads past the hotel into the forest. This is a pleasant walk, it is almost flat, entirely in the refreshing shade of the Vigil Forest. Above the Hotel Vigiler Hof it climbs moderately, always through dense forest, crosses the Strasser Graben, and in a short time brings us up to the lake of Fiè (1056m). This is an artificial pond that was built as a carp pond by the lords of Fiè-Colonna, who resided at Prösels Castle. It is fed by a spring that rises at the foot of the Sciliar and is called the Sciliar blood. On the south-western bank of the pond, in the immediate vicinity of the Waldsee Hotel, we take marking 1. The path now leads continuously downhill, past the Zimmerlehen residence, over a wonderful meadow landscape with an unobstructed view of the villages of Fiè, Prösels Castle, the Bolzano valley basin and in Background to the Mendel Mountains and brings us down to Fiè allo Sciliar (880m). For the return trip to Castelrotto we recommend the bus which runs every half hour between Fiè and Castelrotto. Bus stop in Untervöls at the roundabout.

• Laghetto di Fiè/Lake of Fiè
• „Ansitz Zimmerlehen“

Let the wind blow under your nose below a blue sky, past idyllic mountain villages, where chairs and tables invite you to rest and a tasty “Kirchtag Krapfen” or hearty bacon dumplings beckon. A quick ice cream in the mountain cafe or a latte macchiato on a detour to Lago di Garda. We recommend pleasure routes in and around South Tyrol that you will instantly fall in love with.

Merano and the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, in which plants from all over the world thrive, have been stretching on the sun-drenched slope above Merano since 2001. Merano is a world-famous spa town that Empress Sissi once chose for her winter cure. A promenade is still reminiscent of Sissi's walks today. Discover the medieval town center, the centuries-old arcades and stroll along the Tappeiner Promenade.
